Poetry can mean anything to anyone. For me, I really don't have an exact definition for poetry. It can mean everything to me: sentimental, happy, personal, sad, optimistic, and so on and so forth. But I can say that I associate more with sentimental and personal poetry. Why is that, you may ask? Well, if I were the one who was writing a poem, it would be based on my mood and emotions at that particular moment. If I were the one writing the poem, (cheesy as it may sound) it would be coming from my heart. I think this rush of emotions and feelings is what inspires the writer to write. Previous experiences also give them something to ponder on and later write about. Having said that, I believe that poetry (or any other kind of literature) says a lot about the writer.
Like poetry, love doesn't have a universal definition. Every one has their own definition for it to go with their mood, or whatever. In other words, it's personalized.
This song is poetry to my ears. The reason I chose this song for this assignment is because I felt that not only I can relate to it, but every body else in this class, in this school, and everyone else around the world. For sure, one way or another, each of us has felt love - giving love and receiving it - may it be from a boy-girl relationship, friendships, or from family. I know that most of the songs out there are associated with love and relationships, and I think it [love] just comes naturally. People don't normally do anything to make it happen. It just happens. And sometimes it will take forever to explain it, while others are left speechless.
I was listening to this song two nights ago and the lyrics struck me (not that I never really paid attention to it), but as I was reading it, it made me think. I am really passionate about life and love, in general, so any books, poems, or anything at all that's related to these two topics are really interesting for me. So, as I was reading the lyrics, I thought, "wow, love is really powerful and it can do a lot of stuff. It can either make us, or break us. For some, it can mean a feeling of bliss, while others try to put together the bits and pieces of their broken heart like a puzzle." Funny, love is almost an oxymoron. Actually, it is an oxymoron. Anything you can say about it, interchange it and it would still hold the truth.
The lyrics of this song really have a significant message and a deeper meaning to it, just like poetry. And that's what makes the read worthwhile - just like love: “it doesn't make the world go 'round. It's what makes the ride worthwhile.”
