Teacher's Worth + Our Generation
As a kid, i was brought up like every other Filipino. If you're filipino, you would know this...we were brought up to be obedient and submissive to our parents and the elders. We mess things up, we do something bad, we get punished for it...we cant talk back to them even if we've got something in mind. We have to do whatever they say(sometimes even without justification, just because 'they said so'), or else...
Now, it's really no different with teachers. Back in my zobel days, when i still lived in the philippines, i've observed teachers on how they teach and treat their students. some are harsh, some are strict, some are incredibly nice and amiable. nevertheless, they treat their students, if not exactly, very similar to how our parents treat us. Some may not understand, but teachers are human beings too. They aren't robots. It's funny how teachers feel that way sometimes. I remember one time, we were asking our teacher if she had already marked our tests..she said "guys, you know i teach about 90 students every day...do u have an idea how long it will take me to mark those tests?? im not a robot, i have a life too you know." its funny also how we, as students feel the same thing...i'm sure you guys have had an experience like this already..like one time, it was the day before our break, we were all happy and hopeful that teachers wont give us work (or not as much anyway) to be taken home. but noooo...they had to ruin our day by giving us projects and assignments..also to be handed in the day we come back. like hel-looo? that's why it's called a va-ca-tion! sometimes there would be teachers that would give us homeworks and projects thinking that they're the only class that we attend. geez. anyway, what i wanted to get to is that even teachers have flaws. we cant expect them to be perfect, because who is? this morning, i felt really bad for my teacher because one student was being extremely rude to her. i mean, why?? maybe it's just in the student's personality..but still..*sigh* what's happening with my generation? some think they're too good for everything.
respect and
appreciation aren't given back to those who deserve it. I guess things do
change...and sometimes it's inevitable. It's a big thing for me, because i grew up (as i said) in a culture where elders were always superior, and were always obeyed. Here in Canada, it seems like it's the other way around. parents and teachers are the ones that are more hesitant to speak up, because they know that they will get a response back. it's because they know that they (children/students) have their rights as well..and they
WILL speak up. Now being in Toronto, where it is multicultural, you wouldn't see much of that than lets say, a less diversified state/country like the US maybe. honestly,
what's happening with this generation?? crazy....*sigh*
now goin back to teachers....
one of the professions that i really admire the most is teaching. teachers are very important. other than our parents, they provide us knowledge that we can use for our future. teaching is more so like a vocation rather than a job. you really have to be committed and you have to have that desire and passion for teaching(also, being patient helps), or else it will make teaching a real pain-in-the-a** "job". We owe so much to our teachers.
I hope everyone would understand a teacher's worth..
